“If you like shiny, eye-catching accents and cute reels that are as light as a feather and cost the earth then the AL 13 is not for you. Straight out of the box, the AL 13 is suggestive of business-like, no-nonsense performance. The understated full black body with discreet white logos makes it feel more like a prototype than a shelf-ready Next Big Thing. It doesn’t scream BUY ME, but it does scream USE ME. In fact, the most eye catching part of this reel is the removable decal that comes on the spool shaft itself. And you actually need to remove this before adding line – yes, this reel is all about getting down to business.”
How does it feel? “Firstly, the AL 13 is not the lightest of reels. And I like that. This is tackle that won’t let me (or the fish) down. I need to be using kit that doesn’t mind being dropped, drowned or dirtied, and the AL 13 is built exactly for that! You could take this reel anywhere and it’s going to perform admirably. You don’t need to worry about getting it dunked in saltwater as it’s designed to withstand all that stress. It has a solid sealed drag system that features 13 Fishing’s patent pending Coolstop system that just doesn’t slip and is built using what 13 Fishing call ‘Tank Tough’ aluminium.
“This is an understated, powerhouse of a reel that has been fully tested in harsh saltwater environments so that you, the angler, can enjoy what you do without the worry of damaging it. It feels solid in the hand, balances perfectly with the correct rod and offers some serious cranking power too. I cannot see this reel letting you down any time soon.”
