Shimano introduced the first Bantam reel more than 40 years ago, and with the release of the revamped Bantam A, the company continues to stoke the fires of elite bass anglers. From concept to completion, this low-profile baitcasting reel was precision engineered to deliver unrivalled power, allowing anglers to target heavy cover with ease and efficiency. The redesigned Bantam is the pinnacle of Shimano reel engineering, with features and technologies never seen on a low-profile baitcasting reel.
With Shimano’s Infinity Drive technology, the redesigned Bantam A provides anglers with unrivalled cranking power. Shimano engineers designed the new Bantam specifically to attack dense vegetation, flip jigs, burn spinnerbaits, and scour the depths with large crankbaits. Bantam A’s Infinity Drive reduces torque under load, making reeling easier when battling trophy fish or presenting large baits.
Shimano designed the new Bantam A for the most demanding angling tasks. Shimano’s exclusive cold-forged HAGANE Gear is at the heart of each Bantam A, utilising high-precision gears with micron tolerances to ensure an ultra-smooth feel and dependable functionality season after season. The CoreSolid Body from Bantam combines the B-Side Plate, levelwind guard, and frame into a solid one-piece construction that provides confidence and power through unparalleled rigidity and improved gear meshing.
MicroModule Gear delivers the perfect retrieve with an entirely new gear set that uses smaller teeth and more of them, in addition to super smooth spool and handle rotation. This increases the number of contact points between the pinion and drive gears, resulting in a more efficient gear train. Together, these renowned Shimano gear technologies enable bass anglers to improve performance and efficiency, resulting in a more powerful and enjoyable experience.
The Bantam now includes Shimano’s MGL III Spool, which yields significantly reduced start-up inertia, allowing anglers to reach distant targets while adding versatility to fish a variety of baits and presentations. The narrow spool design allows for accurate presentation of lightweight baits while also improving casting of larger baits.
SilentTune reduces bearing vibration during high-speed rotation by applying slight pressure to the bearing holding the spool. This improves the quietness of the reel while casting. SVS Infinity adds to the precision line management of the Bantam A by providing easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. SVS Infinity’s brake weights use inner friction against the raceway to allow for quick, precise adjustments when anglers need to adjust to new baits and changing conditions.
The new Bantam A comes in three sizes to accommodate every bass angler in the country, each with a capacity of 150 yards of 20-pound test PowerPro and up to 120 yards of 100-pound-test monofilament. The BANTAM150A has a 6.2:1 gear ratio and retrieves 27 inches per crank when used with a variety of techniques and presentations, such as working thick cover with a squarebill or launching shallow-running spinnerbaits to the horizon.
The Bantam BANTAM150HGA has a 7.1:1 gear ratio, retrieves 31 inches per crank, and is ideal for bottom contact baits such as jigheads, Texas rigs, and Carolina rigs. With its 8.1:1 gear ratio, the BANTAM150XGA retrieves line at a blistering 35 inches per crank, which is extremely useful when frogging, punching, and pitching, as well as quickly picking up slack when enticing bass on topwater baits. Each model is finely tuned to present and retrieve baits as efficiently as possible and is available in both left and right-hand retrieve.
