It’s made in the UK and coming to Europe next, says Daiwa’s top product manager

At a price-tag touching more than £700, the X45X Basia may be a very special purchase for your average angler, but the rod delivers what is regarded as the Holy Grail for carp fishermen – accurate long-distance casting.

The man behind the development of the rod, Daiwa European Product Manager Ricky Teale has told Tacklestream that a brand new material and process developed in Japan are the reasons for its bar-raising performance.

“The addition of X45X technology takes the twist out of the blank and makes distance casting more accurate.”

Teale says that the Basia has always been at the top of the Daiwa Carp range of rods for many years and that any groundbreaking advancement in material technology like X45X was always going to be a perfect fit for the best sticks that it produces for the segment.

“Because of its high price-tag, it is aimed at the serious angler with three of them costing around £2,000.”

Already available in the UK, Teale revealed that they will also be on sale across the European carp market in countries that include Germany, France and Italy from September this year.

He added that he is delighted and proud that the Basia X45X was designed and is being manufactured in the UK. “This is very important as the UK still leads in the development of carp fishing products. Daiwa is one of only two or three companies that can actually say that its rods are manufactured here or even Europe.

“It is something that is still seen as important in the top end of the carp market. We have three ranges of UK-made carp rods that are all doing well across the EU – the Basia, Infinity and Longbow.

“The quality – overseen by Japanese manufacturing processing – is the best there is. The stamp ‘Made in the UK’ really means something.”
